Nestled on a country road between Farmington and Wyo Roads in Davie County, NC is our Arrowhead Hills Ranch. We purchased the 20 acres in 1970. The wooded area teemed with arrowheads and, thus, our name. Today Arrowhead Hills Ranch spans 500 acres and offers a full range of equestrian services. We’ve grown from a patch of woods to over 500 acres of pastures, stables, riding rings, turnout paddocks and hay fields. Our facilities include 4 barns housing 53 stalls, the main barn with 40 individual tack rooms, two round pens, two outdoors arenas, 10 paddocks and an indoor arena added in 2003. Our home was designed with views of all the riding rings, paddocks, barns and pastures. We have a hands-on philosophy throughout the ranch’s operation, which includes full and pasture boarding, breeding, lessons and training. We work at the ranch fulltime along with our trainers. We manage the farm work, teach, train and, most of all, make the safety of our horses and patrons our top priority. We offer lessons for all ages from five up in western and huntseat including jumping, barrel racing, horsemanship, equitation and reining. Arrowhead Hills’ training philosophy focuses on versatility and safety and emphasizes principles that allow horse and rider to be all-around competitors. Our practices are based on safe riding and training that utilizes show horse precision to produce enjoyable trail horses. These techniques have led to state and national championships over the years for Arrowhead Hills’ clients. During the 1980s, our 4-H Horse Club won the top national horse judging team honors and was named reserve champion team twice in the Horse Bowl. We are proud to have very talented riders who can help you help your horse. Our training and teaching principles allow beginners, youth and adult patrons to ride safely, have fun and achieve success with their own horses or ours. We bred quarter horses and Appaloosas for many years until an unexpected visitor in 1987 opened the world of Paint Horses. A lady who had an award-winning Paint stallion dropped by, offering us a deal we couldn’t refuse. She was selling out and had handpicked us as the new home for her stallion. She gave us three years to pay for him and promised he’d pay for himself. We picked him up two days later and have bred Paints ever since. We like Paint Horses because a Paint Horse is a quarter horse with chrome. A Paint is a quarter horse with lots of white but still has the quietness and the temperament of a quarter horse. Our foaling barn is equipped with cameras and a Birth Monitoring System by Foalert, Inc. Through the years, more than 100 foals have been born at Arrowhead Hills Ranch. We feed a custom-blended grain and our own hay. Our feed was developed by the Albion Company 15 years ago and J.P. Green Milling in Mocksville (NC) makes it according to our formula. It’s 11% protein, 8% fat and includes all vitamins and minerals so we don’t have to feed a supplement. A Southern States salesman who came by thought our hay looked so great that he wanted to test it. It turned out to be 12% protein, which is almost unheard of for rescue. We use the HorseTrak record keeping system to document each horse’s care. That history is valuable for our buyers. We are proud of being able to match people with horses. When someone wants to buy a horse, we evaluate their riding ability then diligently search for the right horse for that rider. We have been active in the American Quarter Horse and the Palomino Associations and have served on the boards of the Carolina Paint Horse Club and the American Paint Horse Association.
We invite you to visit our facilities and to become part of the AHR family. We’re not fancy but we are caring and have many years of experience to share with you and your horse.
